COMMERCIAL GENERAL CONTRACTOR
Chilled Water Pipe Support Structure
DATA CENTER STUDY
PROJECT PROFILE
LOCATION
Phoenix, AZ
COMPLETED
2019
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Over 500 linear feet of pipe rack was required for 12″ water lines connecting the data center chillers to interior mechanical equipment. The contractor sought alternatives to galvanized steel due to long lead times, expensive installation, and difficulty in accommodating as-built foundation conditions.
TIMELINE
ADVANTIC SCOPE
Advantic engineered the solution to meet project and code requirements, generated PE-stamped design documents and calculations for local permitting authorities, fabricated the structural system including foundations, and performed field installation support.
TECHNICAL APPROACH
Advantic structural engineers utilized fiber-reinforced polymer structural profiles to meet Code-prescribed strength and serviceability criteria including seismic loads and thermal conditions in the Arizona environment. Coordination with the mechanical trades ensured appropriate interfaces between the pipe spools and the structure to support design conditions.
ECONOMICS
The fabricated cost was less than galvanized steel, and design and fabrication lead times were improved by 60-percent. Total installed cost was improved by more than 20-percent.
